About the design:
Sankaty Head Lighthouse was built in 1850, and it still functions as a navigational device. The tower is not open to the public, but you can walk around the grounds at any time of the year. The location offers a breathtaking view of the island’s moors and the mighty Atlantic Ocean.
Nantucket Lightship vessel, first moored in 1854, marked the hazardous Nantucket Shoals south of Nantucket Island. This boat was an important US Lightship Station for transatlantic voyages. She was the last light seen leaving the United States to Europe, and the first light seen approaching the United States.
